  1. A papaya is a tropical tree Carica papaya of 
  2. the family Caricaceae, native from Florida to 
  3. South America. Varieties are grown throughout 
  4. the tropics. The edible fruits resemble a 
  5. melon, with orange-coloured flesh and 
  6. numerous blackish seeds in the central 
  7. cavity, they may weigh up to 9kg (20lb).
